| Many are under the erroneous perception that gifted children can thrive in a traditional classroom setting without any specialized services or support. And so, gifted children across the country are indeed "left-behind" due to inadequate or even a lack of challenging programs in their local schools. One report cited that a "little over one-half of the potentially gifted learners in the United States are reported to be receiving educational services appropriate to their needs". Recently, with many school districts having to decide between core services and gifted programs due to budget shortfalls - gifted programs are quickly expunged. But, there is still a very real and powerful solution that I've personally manage to find ultimate success with and that is.... parental empowerment.
