Homeschool Corner!
Homeschooling is the process of providing children a home-based education with parents at the helm and/or with the assistance of tutors.
It is an education movement that has exploded among families in the United States for nearly twenty years with reasons ranging from dissatisfaction with instruction to concerns about school environment! (See [USA Today 2003 Article; "Homeschooling Grows!])
The term "homeschooling" is a misnomer for many families currently. You will find that families provide for their children's education in various settings!
Many join home school groups where children participate in field trips; academic courses at other institutions; physical education at nearby schools or recreation centers; standardized testing; community involvement work and other academic, social and recreational developmental opportunities enjoyed by their counterparts.
Currently the only distinction that can be made between a home-based education and traditional schooling is that it is completely administered and managed by the parents.

First, here are some quick things to consider as you contemplate home-schooling full-time:
- Which parent will be the primary educator?
- Will you use a "pre-packaged" curriculum or compile one of your own? (compiling one is rather easy and cheap...no worries...Gifted-Spirit will teach you! )
- Should your family become part of a home school group or network?
- How long will you home-school?
- Check your community for free or low-cost extracurricular activities. Some places even have gym classes specifically for home schoolers.
- Check your school district's website for the requirements to home-school.
